Jaqui Seerman is a distinctive voice in contemporary interior design, celebrated for crafting refined, emotionally resonant spaces rooted in their architectural surroundings. Trained by AD100 icons, Waldo Fernandez and Martyn Lawrence Bullard, she has transformed private residences, luxury hotels, and cultural landmarks alike. Her work is grounded in a narrative approach, using material, proportion, and intuition to express the soul of a space.

We chatted with Jaqui on her process, lighting, and the feeling of her projects.

How do you see the Emerson sconce impacting the exterior spaces you design?

Jaqui: I was drawn to the Emerson sconce for the way it brought a more youthful, playful energy to our project. It has this refined yet relaxed presence that adds just the right amount of tension, a little bit wabi-sabi, a little unexpected. I love pieces that blur the lines between styles and materials, and this one felt like the perfect counterpoint to the formality of the architecture. It made the whole exterior feel more layered and alive.

What initially drew you to Hennepin Made for this project?

Jaqui: I was drawn to Hennepin Made for their commitment to craft. There’s a warmth and subtlety in their pieces that really resonates. The hand-blown glass feels intentional and lived-in, which mirrors how I approach interiors: thoughtful, refined, and grounded in feeling. Their lighting doesn’t just fill a space; it becomes part of its character and the family's story.

Can you describe your design ethos, and how lighting plays into designing a space?

Jaqui: My ethos is rooted in contrast, refined but relaxed, timeless yet grounded in the moment. I’m always thinking about how a space feels, not just how it looks. Beautiful design isn’t just about the fixture or the furniture; it’s about the experience. Lighting plays such a key role in that. The right piece sets the mood, anchors the architecture, and ultimately helps shape how clients live in the space.

What stands out to you about the craftsmanship of the Emerson sconce?

Jaqui: The thickness and opacity of the glass, it fully envelops the light source, giving the fixture a monolithic presence that feels both sculptural and intentional. There’s a quiet refinement to it, but also a subtle playfulness in how it softens and diffuses the light. It’s beautifully made and strikes that rare balance between modern and timeless.
