The small chamfered edge on the glass form breaks up the line in-between the two pieces of glass and also brings the contour of the slightly oversized glass piece into the same contour of the base. Proportion on this was also important, the design has the two pieces of glass slightly shorter than the base, yet with the width of the glass being slightly larger it creates a balanced visual presentation to this handsome lamp.
